September is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and a group of independent podcasters I listen to raise money this month for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Because a majority of St. Jude’s funding comes from the generosity of donor contributions, they have the freedom to focus on what matters most—treating kids regardless of their financial situation. A few highlights on the good that St. Jude does in the world:
- When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate in the U.S. from 20% to more than 80%, and they won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
- St. Jude treats children from all 50 states and around the world.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting St. Jude’s important mission of curing childhood cancer. No donation is too small: $10 can help purchase a new toy for hospital play areas; $25 pays for one day of patient meals. If you’re moved to give, feel rewarded by giving whatever amount you can. Mother Teresa is quoted as saying, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”
More information about St. Jude and how to give can be found at https://tiltify.com/@tonytx05/relay-for-st-jude-2026.
The podcasting network Relay starting raising money for St. Jude after one of the founder’s children was diagnosed with brain cancer and treated at St. Jude. Since 2019, the group has raised over 5 million USD, mostly through small, individual donations. You can find out more about Relay’s work with St. Jude at https://relay.experience.stjude.org/ and their podcasts at https://relay.fm/shows. Many of their shows are tech-focused, but they also include a group of creators that publish shows covering productivity, writing, entrepreneurship & product design, stationary, and a few shows about nothing in particular at all.
